These are a few recent small builds I made for my home. I always find frames to be much more complicated and difficult than expected but the one made of sapele, while simple in design, came out quite well and fit the artwork (which is a print I got from Amsterdam). I’m starting to grow fonder of sapele the more I use it. Meanwhile the maple frame also fits its print (from Amsterdam as well) but the construction was frustrating. I’ll have to rebuild it at some point as I messed up the roundover edge profile at least five times.
I’m a big fan of the sunglasses box. I had always wanted to build something like this for practical purposes. When browsing lumber, I found this beautiful curly maple and all it needed was as simple mitered box construction with splines.
